Description
Chelmsford is the county town of Essex, and centre of administration for the county and the borough of Chelmsford it lies within. It is in the East of England region of the UK. It has population of 110,000.1 The town is The settlement is approximately central to the county and lies off of the bypassed A12 trunk road.
Progress
An estimated 3% has been mapped using GPS, most of which has been interpreted into ways i.e. roads, footpaths, rivers etc. Most of the ways created from these traces have been tagged to give them names. Features, e.g. post boxes, bus stops etc are mostly absent.
Areas still needing to be mapped
The majority of Chelmsford still needs to be mapped. Escept for the obvious lack of deatil in any residential area, the main roads in the northwest are the most notable ommisions at present.
Early work
The first ways to appear where the A12 road and the Great Eastern Mainline railway.
By 29 April the majority of main roads to the east of the railway line were mapped.
