This is a page where people can propose Featured images. Once consensus is reached here, the image can be moved into a slot on the Featured images page, effectively scheduling it for display on the front page.

Requests for images

If you know of or can create one of the following images, please add it to this page, or add a link to the talk page:

  • Dorking [1]
  • Bulgaria
  • Cuzco, Peru (large areas mapped) [2]
  • Lhasa, Tibet, China (idem) [3]
  • Moabit, Berlin, Germany (high detail) [4]
  • The Finowfurt area, Germany, location of the last Chaos Communication Camp (Aug. 08-12 2007) has received lots of attention and detailed maps. [5]

Suggestions without images

  • What about some of the arty stuff like the 'living (heart) map', I just heard the podcast but have only seen one of the graphics. - LastGrape
  • Ipswich is complete, is that a good reason to put it on the front page! - PeterIto (last featured image of Ipswitch was September 2007)
  • If you'd like to cover my Durham, UK project of http://www.livingwithdragons.com then I can send somebody a nice photo of the cathedral or cow or something. - LastGrape

Geluidsnet: live flighttracks and airplaine noise

Geluidsnet measures live airplane flightroutes and noise. Uses OSM data for detailed map of the Netherlands.
Pretty old data used there though. ;) --Skywave 22:59, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Baghdad

Baghdad roads are mapped in great detail, but we still need a good source of street name information

Silverstone Circuit

A render of Silverstone Race circuit, as it's the UK Grandprix weekend this weekend. Few bits missing, but most is quite high detail.
  • Source: GPS for everything except county border wich was done referencing NPEmaps.
  • Renderer: Osmarender with custom rulesheet.

I've darkened the racetrack to make it bold, highlighting it would look tacky. It was a render of the area, rather than just of the circuit, hence it wasn't highlighted before. Ben 17:52, 9 July 2007 (BST)

What you need is OpenLayers with active markers.. ;-) Good Job --Mungewell 19:15, 4 April 2008 (BST)

Eindhoven

Paths and roads in Nuenen, Eindhoven]

Development of OSM for Canberra, Australia

Animation showing the development of OSM coverage for Australia's capital city, Canberra. The frames are weekly renders, with the first one being in early May 2007.

Honolulu

Honolulu gets rendered after the TIGER import, and with a detailed Mapnik sea area.

Ljubljana progress

A year of mapping in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Appears to be a blank image if you have animation turned off on the browser. Ojw 09:52, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

It's because we started with a blank map, d'oh! :) Will shift the frames in the next version to make it start with the latest frame. --Stefanb 16:04, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Visualize tours in the map

MyTourbook is an application that can visualize tours in a map which are recorded by a GPS device.
Different map providers can be selected, with the offline feature, the maps can be used without internet connection.

Waterway drains drawn using Yahoo areal photos

Waterway drains look like art, mapped using potlatch and the Yahoo-imaginary.
Warning: April 1 nomination of a field with puddles in ;) Ojw 22:00, 1 April 2008 (BST)

Promotion stickers

One of the ways to help Open Street Map project is promotion. Here is draft version of bumper stickers.

Design is based on The State Of The Map:Logo. (UrSuS)

Can we have a photo of them in use? Ojw 14:03, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
I added photo of my bike and modified design: reduced width and centred text. Also it's a lamited papper, becouse it was cheaper to create and I couldn't find place for the stikcer. UrSuS 11:03, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

OpenPisteMap

A piste map of Verbier from openpistemap.org. Steve Hill set this up to render our piste map data along with contours.

While it's still ski season, I thought User:Steve Hill's excellent work creating OpenPisteMap deserves either a featured image, or lolcat. -- Harry Wood 13:59, 8 April 2008 (BST)

Max length for caption text?

Speaking of being compact... Shouldn't we limit these image captions to three or four sentences? (I'm also talking about the current Main Page featured image, which has a whole essay written under it!) I'd suggest writing all of this detail on the image description page, and sticking to a very brief summary appearing within the Main Page box. -- Harry Wood 14:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good. Any objections? Ojw 20:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

OSM on Windows CE

An example of Gosmore running on Windows CE.

Crop it ? Or ask nroets@gmail.com for another photo.

Significance : Windows CE based GPSs far outnumber Garmin map capable GPSs and OpenMoko phones, yet we have never featured the map on them before.

Web Routing

A web routing screen shot. For example [8]

Cornish Road Names/More data the better

If you see more information then add it to the map. Porthleven in Cornwall has translations on some road signs, a new render rule set was quickly made that displays the data.
Text to long? I came home from my Cornish holiday on the 4th July and made this image on the 6th July 2008, it could be a featured image after SOTM. http://www.livingwithdragons.com will soon have a blog post about the Cornish render.

Coventry

Coventry Ring Road (A4053) provides a good boundary for micro mapping.

Suggested image: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=52.408&lon=-1.51&zoom=16 TAH/OSMA derived rendering, with the ring-road highlighted.

Marble

OSM data in KDE Marble, for Linköping (latest map)

UrSuS Icon set

My icon set developed for OSM. It's still not finished, but major POIs already included. Now it's used in Kosmos General rules, but I hope it soom will be in Mapnik and OSMarender. --UrSuS 12:37, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
