This page contains information relating to mapping activity that is specific to the Isle of Man.
Although the Isle of Man is only a small island, there are still over 688 miles of road - all of which should be mapped for the OpenStreetMap.

Roads
The majority of A Roads have been covered as have the B Roads. A number of other, smaller, roads have been covered also. They are listed on the list of roads over at Wikipedia.
Railways
The railways are all complete with the exception of the Douglas Horse Trams which have not yet been added. There may be some stops missing from the Electric Railway.

Helping out
Anybody can help out with mapping the Isle of Man for the Openstreetmap project - you just need to create an account and get editing.
Collecting GPS tracks
A large amount of raw GPS data is required to enable people working on the project to draw roads onto the map. If you have a GPS, take it out with you whenever you go out on the car, the bus, the train and log the routes. You can then upload the data directly to the system and either map it yourself or let someone else do that mapping work.
Drawing the roads
Once GPS points have been uploaded to the system you can see where you have travelled and then draw the road networks on top.
Tracing from existing mapping data
There is a 1:100,000 raster map of the Isle of Man, supplied by the Isle of Man Government, which can now be used as a basis for mapping. See Nick Black's writeup for details. Note that this is a one-off and the only Ise of Man Government map available for this purpose. In addition to current data, New Popular Edition Ordnance Survey maps from the 1940s are out of copyright and as such available for tracing as well.
Tagging
Local knowledge is key to the success of the map, especially within towns and villages, so if you know the names of streets that have already been mapped around you then please go in and add that information to the right stretch of road.
