OpenStreetMap is a non-profit organisation that relies on donations for much of its funding. If you think that our aims are worthwhile then please donate as much as you can to help us keep the servers running.

We have a UK bank account and also run a PayPal account. Generally, if you have a UK bank account it is best to make a standing order or electronic funds transfer to our bank account, we can also accept old-fashioned cheques if you can't do it electronically.

If you do not have a UK bank account then, except for large amounts (over €250/$250), it is probably best to make the payment via PayPal although it does depend on what charges are incurred by your own bank.

UK Standing Orders

If you have a UK bank account, a regular monthly donation is the best way to help OpenStreetMap.

You can set up a standing order for any amount (for example, £10 per month) payable to the following account:

  • Account name: OpenStreetMap Foundation
  • Sort-code: 089299
  • Account number: 65243899
  • Reference: sto

Please also send an email to treasurer@openstreetmap.org stating the amount and start date of the standing order so that we know when to expect it.

UK Electronic Funds Transfers

If you have a UK bank account the most cost effective way of making a one-off donation to OpenStreetMap is to make an electronic funds transfer from your own bank account directly to the OSMF account. The account details are:

  • Account name: OpenStreetMap Foundation
  • Sort-code: 089299
  • Account number: 65243899
  • Reference: donation

Please also send an email to treasurer@openstreetmap.org stating the amount and date of the donation so that we can be sure we have received it.

International Donations

If you do not have a UK bank account, but want to make a donation then you can do that either by making a payment to our bank account or to our PayPal account.

For donations to our PayPal account we are charged a flat fee of £0.20 plus 3.4% of the amount of the donation. In most cases this will be cheaper than making a payment directly to our bank account.

For donations to our bank account that are less than £100 (about €150 or $150) then our bank will not charge us a processing fee, however your bank may make a charge of €15/$15 or more. For donations of over £100 our bank will charge us £6. If you do wish to make a payment to our bank account use the following details:

Become a member

Another way you can support us is to become a member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation. The membership fee is £15 per year and enables you to influence the direction of OpenStreetMap by being able to vote in elections for officers of the foundation. Members may also get discounts on some OSMF organised events (such as the State of the Map conference). You do not have to be a member in order use or contribute to OpenStreetMap.

If you do not have a UK bank account you can become a member by paying £15 through PayPal here.

Use of funds

The Foundation currently has a mandate from its members to use funds for the following purposes:

  • Hardware 60%
  • Promotion 20%
  • Legal 20%

The small print

All donations are processed securely via PayPal.

You don't need to be subscribed to PayPal to make a one-off donation and you can pay with a credit card or debit card if you wish. You will need to have, or create, an account with PayPal to setup a recurring donation.

We respect your personal privacy. Your identity will not be disclosed publicly without your consent. However, if you become a member of the foundation the membership list may be disclosed publicly.
