This page describes how to use the OSM data with Oziexplorer.

Show OSM data as overlay into an pixel map

With Oziexplorer you can calibrate scanned pixel map, and show them. The normal vector data of osm can not be used directly into the Oziexplorer. But with the help of Importing Planet.osm into QGIS the OSM data can used as overlay, the script can also be found in "osm2ozf.tgz":

  • load the seeked map part e.g. with JOSM
  • save this as "planet.osm"
  • start the script Importing Planet.osm into QGIS (this works only under Linux)
  • after this you should find a file called "planet.mif"
  • open the Oziexplorers
  • load the your pixel map
  • load the MIF-File (File → Load from File → Import → From MapInfo MIF File)

After this you could have e.g this picture:

Image:Example osm ozi.png

Now you can find such areas which has not been already mapped and you can set waypoint marks for your next bike trip with your Navi/Garmin.

Notice: Please don't use these waypoints directly in OSM. Please respect the copyright of the scanned map.

Convert OSM data into an pixel map with calibration (not continues to develop)

Please refer to the tiles@home version.

Generate an pixel map with calibration using tiles@home tiles

The program called "taho.pl" Oziexplorer#Availability downloads 32x32 tiles from the specified area and glue them together. You can use the program by give the tilenames or the coordinates. The result is a 1024x1024 PNG-image and some calibration files for use with navigation applications like Ozi Explorer or others. Here the help of the script:

osm2ozf_20070619$ ./osm2ozi_tah.pl
usage: ./osm2ozi_tah.pl [-tilename=Z,x,y] [-coord=Z,lat,lon] [-tilesource=source]
This script will download the tiles from the openstreetmap server and glue then together, after that, it generates a calibrated map file.

You have to restart the script, if any download-failure occure.

Z: Zoom 1..11
x,y: slippy map tilenames
lat,lon: :-)

example 1, part of germany : ./osm2ozi_tah.pl -tilename="7,67,42" -tilesource="http://tile.openstreetmap.org"
example 2, Erlangen        : ./osm2ozi_tah.pl -coord="11,49.5897222,11.0038889"
example 3, Munich          : ./osm2ozi_tah.pl -coord="11,48.15,11.58" -tilesource="http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~ojw/Tiles/tile.php"
example 4, Sao Paulo       : ./osm2ozi_tah.pl -coord="11,-23.6681,-46.7520" -tilesource="http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~ojw/Tiles/tile.php"

for more help please refer to [[Oziexplorer]].

The map looks like this:

Image:Example2 osm ozi.png

Now you can load the mif file and check the calibration of the pixel map.

Hints for Windows user to install perl and GD.pm :

Hints for Linux user to install perl and GD.pm :

You may need libgd-gd2-perl.

  • On Debian: aptitude install libgd-gd2-perl

OziExplorerCE

If you using the OziExplorerCE on your PDA, you can convert the .jpg and .map files into the special ozi-Fileformat(ozfx3) with the free program "IMG2OZF". The OziexplorerCE can only read this special format.

Image:Screenshot oziexplorerCE.png

other formats (Fugawi, Touratech, Pathaway, Glopus)

The script now write also calibration files for: - Pathaway - TTQV - Glopus - Oziexplorer ;-)

Alternativ may you like to use the tool "OziMapConverter" for converting the calibration files.

Availability

The script is available via SVN http://svn.openstreetmap.org/applications/utils/downloading/taho, use trac http://trac.openstreetmap.org/browser/applications/utils/downloading/taho for comfortable browsing.

This script uses wrong projection for the tiles: mercator on WGS84 ellipsoid, instead of mercator on sphere with R=a=6378137 m --Usm78 22:39, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Older versions:
