Sweden
There are lots of nice reports about maps in sweden, about historical maps and all that.
- Stockholm GIS info site with some free (as in speech) data about Stockholm. E.g. Dangerous goods roads, nature reserves, built up areas. Everything in ziped shapefiles.
- statistics about places in stockholm To add the most important places on the map, they are all in excel.

- GPSvisualizer plots individual tracks in color on existing background maps, http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/
- Create individual map interfaces with any WMS you find in the world with the Mapbender project
