From OpenStreetMap
This page contains information relating to mapping activity that is specific to the United States of America.

Mailing List
There is a [mailing list for discussing US-specific issues. It is probably the best place to find other US mappers.
TIGER
See the TIGER page for full details.
The TIGER data set is a massive database of U.S. streets, available in the public domain. The data is limited in accuracy, and 'unclean' for various reasons, but obviously it offers a very good starting point for mapping in the U.S. The process of importing this data into the OSM database is now complete. The scripts developed for this purpose, also performed a number automated cleanup tasks. OpenStreetMap is now probably the best source of 'open content' U.S. street map data!
But it's not finished. See Tiger fixup for details of ways in which TIGER data is not ideal. OpenStreetMap contributors in the U.S. can work on improving this data at a local level.
Goals
If you have a goal that you are working towards or one that you would like to see get done (and are maybe willing to get the ball rolling) then add it to the list here, create a section where it can be coordinated and tracked, and a way of measuring progress. And then get on with it :-)
NetSquared Nomination
There was a nomination for OpenStreetMap at NetSquared to get some support and funding to accelerate the take-up of OpenStreetMap in the US. Voting was open for one week from April 9th - 14th, 2007.

Very useful for Landmarks such as parks, cemeteries, water features, hospitals, land use, etc. Some information is outdated such as T.B. sanitariums and Civil War hospitals so additional research may be required.
