Tobias 'dawidi' Hoerburger, Regensburg, United States of Bavaria. Geocacher and all-year cyclist, among other things. I have collected traces since spring 2006 (before I knew of OSM) and initiated the mapping of Regensburg in August 2007. My GPS is a Garmin Vista - now, thanks to mkgmap, always loaded with the latest OSM map :)

I remember, in 1999 or 2000 in a situation where I was stuck in the woods, in the middle of a "highway=noway" due to an outdated map, I thought: "Having a digital map on a GPSr on my bike would be way cool... people could submit their own ways made from their tracks and share that map data online, like they share mp3s on Napster [yes it was that time], but legally. On such a map any missing, superfluous or erroneous ways could be fixed instantly and everyone would profit from that." - Guess what we have now. Thanks folks!

Now that most of the larger roads and residential areas around here are mapped, I'm shifting my attention to footpaths and tracks, as well as the villages west and north of Regensburg. Completing the Königswiesen, Königswiesen Süd and the Zieget area are still on my agenda as well. On a larger scale, I envision that with the help of other Bavarian OSM addicts the Bayernnetz für Radler "cyclehighways" might be completely mapped this summer. OSM would sure make a great cycling map.

OSM Starterkit

I have compiled a bit of documentation and a few scripts for people who want to start mapping for OSM but are scared off by the complexities of the wiki (or possibly lack knowledge of English).
