This category lists templates that contain strings/phrases that can be translated.

It should only be added on templates that contain translation strings inside their own code, and not on templates that delegate this task to other templates.

Note that:

  • A list of translations strings usually looks similar to the sample code on the right, where the two (or more) characters on the left side of the equal side are the language code(s) indicating the language(s) of the right side message. Several languages will frequently share the same translation (or may fallback to the same translation borrowed from another language); usually English (indicated by the language code |en=) is also used as the |#default= translation returned when no language code matches. The language code is the same as the prefix of a page on that language (except that its lettercase is not significant and language codes used in selectors are lowercase only).
  • Templates using only {{#switch: language-code|...}} must have a |#default= translation and allow multiple language codes to be mapped to the same returned value, but don't support language fallbacks. This method is recommended for generating translated category names where language fallbacks are undesirable.
  • Templates based on {{LangSwitch|lang= language-code |...}} support language fallbacks, but must have a |en= or |default= parameter (which may be distinguished from the |en= value for English), but don't allow multiple parameters to be directly mapped to the same returned value without copying these values (the |default= parameter may be used as a last-chance fallback along with {{TranslateThis}}, while the value returned for specific language codes such as |en= will not use it). This method is recommended except for translated category names.
