Cavite Road Network Mapping Party/Planning

From OpenStreetMap Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This page is for documenting the planning, organizing, preparations, and logistics of the Cavite Road Network Mapping Party. Actual discussions should be done in the talk-ph mailing list.

Planning this event is quite important since the structure of this Mapping Party is quite unlike any other Mapping Party done in the Metro Manila area.

General information

This event will focus mapping the road network of central and southern towns of Cavite. The objective is to connect all town centers and add priority POIs covered by the route. This will be a car-centric mapping. Wherein, each team will have an assigned route from Alabang to Tagaytay. Eact team should have at least 3 members with the pre-defined tasks.

For before the event

Announcements

  • todo: Facebook event page (maybe sometime in late July). This will serve as the main RSVP page (since this Wiki is too geeky for newbies).
  • Invite cavite mappers using osm messaging system
  • Other online announcements: This event was announced/posted online at the following websites and forums:
    • add here
Please add links so that we can follow up questions or replies on those forums or websites.
  • Press Release

todo: Prepare press material.

Sponsorships

  • Target sponsorships are gas/fuel and food for each team. Estimated amount for each team Php 2,000.00
  • todo: Prepare sponsorship letter
  • Where do we submit sponsorships
    • local GPS sellers/distributors - sent several letter already. One company is interested, will follow-up later. Maning 11:17, 24 August 2010 (BST)
    • LGU/Government agency - can be tapped as a sponsor or an event partner
      • Sorbi will help distribute letter to LGUs.
      • Department of Tourism (e.g., map Cavite's tourist spots).
      • Draft LGU Letter. It would be good to add the OSM brochure (made by seav) and map printout of the respective town in the letter.

Hon. xxxxxxxxxx,

Greetings Of PEACE!

My name is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and I am writing your good office
in behalf of Openstreetmap Philippines. Openstreetmap is an
international project whose aim is to create and provide free
geographic data for the whole planet. This is a volunteer project
currently with more than 270,000 users worldwide. The Philippines is
one of the active countries in South East Asia. We have a website and
a wikipage for your reference:

An example of our current coverage is here:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?lat=14.594&lon=121.032&zoom=11

We are also expanding our coverage to other provinces in the country.
We believe [insert town]should be extensively mapped as well. The link below is
the current map data for [insert town]:

[osm map link]

In order to add more data, we are planning to visit [insert town] for our
Cavite mapping party. Mapping party is an event where volunteer
mappers focus in one area and attempt to map as much information in a
day or two. The mapping party will be on September 11, 2010.

To make the event a success, we would like to coordinate with your
office. As an initial step, we would like to gather secondary
information about [insert town]. May we request your office to provide us with:
[insert specific requests here]
 - Additional map data
 - Sponsorship
 - Coordination assistance during the event

We assure you that all updates and revisions will be given back to the City Government.

Thank you very much and we hope you can grant our request. Should there be any
clarifications, please send me message at [email add] or call at []

Respectfully yours,

Mapping priorities

Towns

The target towns are the central and southern portions of Cavite since the northern portion is already covered with high-res satellite images from Yahoo!. Thus it's best to focus the effort of the mapping party on the southern areas.
