Las vías residenciales, en comparación con las calles residenciales, tienen regulaciones especiales, como límites de velocidad más bajos, restricciones al aparcamiento, etc...
Hay multitude de vías residenciales en Alemania ("Verkehrsberuhigter Bereich") y se aplican conceptos muy similares en otros lugares. Etiquetarlas simplemente con etiquetas individuales, como highway=residential, maxspeed=7, motorcar=yes, motorcycle=yes, bicycle=yes, ... sigue ocultando información, además de ser especialmente tedioso en zonas en las que pueden existir multitud de este tipo de vías. Además, los renderizadores pueden mostrar de distinto modo las vías residenciales respecto a las calles normales y corrientes, o establecer dicha distinción sólo a partir de un determinado nivel de zoom.
El software de ruteo y navegación debiera de intentar evitar dichas vías cuando se viaja en coche.

Cómo mapear
No se requiere más que una vía sencilla para mapear una vía residencial. Añada la etiqueta highway=living_street y su nombre con name=

La etiqueta maxspeed se considera implícita, de acuerdo a la reglamentación de cada país ((como se hace con la etiqueta highway=motorway y similares).
Por ejemplo, no se necesita añadir una etiqueta de maxspeed=7 a una vía residencial alemana.

Tempo-30-Zone (Germany)
Please note: a "Tempo-30-Zone" - where the main special regulation is the 30km/h speed limit itself - is NOT a living street. These streets should be tagged with highway=residential, maxspeed=30.
Spielstraße (Germany)
In common language many people name as "Spielstraße" what is named "Verkehrsberuhigter Bereich" by law (Straßenverkehrsordnung StVO). The term "Spielstraße" is not used in the StVO, but can be found in additional regulations (Verwaltungsvorschriften). It names a rarely used combination of a common exclusion of every traffic (Verbot für Fahrzeuge aller Art, the common red circle, white center), combined with a small symbol below for playing children [7].
The max. speed of 7 km/h for "Schrittgeschwindigkeit" ist not named within the StVO, but resulted from different judgements, most within the range of 7 up to 12 km/h. It may be even as low as 4 km/h, while all are significantly below 20 km/h.
