Goals

What to map
- Immediate needs (2011 January)
- Huge swaths of the country are poorly mapped, yet have excellent Bing imagery, particularly outside of Cairo in the smaller but still significant cities like Suez, Port Said, and Aswan, and throughout the Nile Delta and upper Egypt. (various cities and towns south of Cairo).
- If you have local knowledge, you can help add street names, points of interest, etc.

2019/2020 Digital Egypt Project:

Naming conventions
To see names in English on OSM map, you can use OpenStreetMap on the Wikimedia Toolservers

تم تجريب الخرائط على العديد من الأنظمة والمتصفحات وحتى أجهزة المحمول، وكلها أثبت جدارة في عرض الأسماء باللغة العربية من غير مشاكل. وبحسب قواعد التسمية في مشروع خريطة الشارع المفتوح يجب كتابة الأسماء باللغة المحلية في سمة name=*، ومن ثم كتابة الاسم بالعربي مرة آخرى في سمة name:ar=* ويليها الاسم بالإنكليزية name:en=* والفرنسية name:fr=* واللغات الأخرى. وذلك حسب المثال التالي:

place=village : قرية
place=town : بلدة
place=suburb : حي ، ضاحية أو جزء من مدينة
place=city : مدينة أو عاصمة محافظة
place=region : منطقة/محافظة
place=locality : منطقة أو محلة من غير ان تكون مسكونة

GPS Ban? Legal situation
Update: In April 2009, the Egyptian government finally lifted the ban on the use of GPS equipment. It is now legal to import and use GPS devices for navigation. Previously, it may not have been legal to do mapping using GPS units in Egypt.

- 06 Cairo ring road.
