Navigable Inland Waterways

There are a number of inland navigable waterways in Ireland.

• Shannon System
  • Limerick to Killaloe
  • Lough Derg
  • Portumna to Athlone
  • Lough Ree
  • Lanesboro to Lough Key
• Shannon Erne Waterway
• Lough Erne
• Lough Neagh
• Royal Canal
• Grand Canal
• Barrow Navigation

Tagging

All tagging tries to conform with the OpenSeaMap scheme

Ireland uses the IALA-A scheme for marks. The Shannon uses Red / Black marks as Port / Starboard channel marks, but these are being changed to the IALA-A scheme which is Red / Green.

All marks will be tagged using the IALA-A scheme.

Issues

• Currently using route=ferry to mark the navigable channel, or recommended track.
• Don't know what tag to use for 'End of Navigation'
• Not sure what is best way to mark bridges for navigation
• Inland markers don't easily conform to IALA shapes...
• Weir & Lock gates aren't showing up on map for Athlone?
