The mapkibera project (mapkibera.org) is training local people of Kibera, Nairobi, to create and own their map with OpenStreetMap.

Mapping projects are collaborative efforts by people with a common interests, which may be to map a particular territory or to improving mapping for a particular topic of interest. There are projects for most countries in the world and for many specialist interest areas; there are also projects that relate to the operation and development of the software and services that make the OpenStreetMap possible.
