Proposal:Handball

This proposal has been obsoleted by the approved sport=team_handball. other handball variants can make separate tags.

Proposed value

Intent: To mark the location of a handball court

The new value may be used with the sport tag with nodes or areas. The proposed tag is:

I apologize as I am not an OSM expert. I am aware that there are at least two sports broadly defined as "handball". One is team handball, played in a regular field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_handball). The other handballs take different names in different countries (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palla, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_handball, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencian_fronto). I think it would be interesting to capture these differences, so I'm asking if this could be accounted for (also to learn more about the OSM process). Andrea Giacomelli aka pibinko
- It's something that recently came up with a boules/bowles proposal with a different name that may not be much more than a language translation. You could also propose use of type= to distinguse or propose a slightly differing sport=value, or maybe the type on a regular field can be ignored and never tagged. I don't have a clue what handball is so I have no opinion on this proposal. - LastGrape 11:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'd vote for specifying that this is the sport you describe as team handball, while the other one could be referred to as five (which wikipedia says it is a variation of). Bobkare 17:19, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
