Proposal
Use subgroups (vegetables, fruit, meat etc.) for mapping drink & food vending machines.
+introduce food:xxx=yes/no analogous to drink:xxx=* (this tag can also be used on other POIs like restaurants)
Rationale
At the moment vending=drinks & vending=food are very common tags, but you will also find vending=tomatoes, asparagus, milk etc. (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/vending). The idea is to limit the amount of uncommon vending= tags with low usage to have a better overview. And compared to just using drink/food + food:/drink: this will offer a general idea what the vending machine dispenses by just looking at the vending= tag.
