Proposal

This is a proposal for tagging water utility offices, i.e. the place where you go to sign up for water services, pay your water bill, or apply for permits. There is already a water works tag, but that is for the place where the water is pumped into the water network, which is usually separate from the offices of the water company or government agency. This is an important feature to show on maps since everyone who lives in a city will probably have to visit it at least once to sign up for water services.

Tagging

  • office=water_utility

The office itself.

  • operator=

The name of the company or agency that runs the office and operates the utility.

  • name=

The name of the office, for example, "Smith County Water Main Office". This is the name that would be displayed on the map.

Examples

This tag would be for the offices of a company or agency that runs the water utilities for a city or town. For example, "Smithville Water Board", or "Metro Water Services". It would not be for water treatment plants or water works facilities. There would generally be one office per city or town.

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. Just a note that the icon (in Mapnik and JOSM) is not a water drop but a water tower. This would not make a good icon for water utility office. A drop would be ok but I think there wouldn't actually need to be a special icon but that a mere dot would be just fine -- so long as the name would actually be rendered on (general) rendering(s). Space permitting, as always. --JaakkoH (talk) 22:45, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. except for the rendering. Usually, the name=* is displayed on the map, not the operator=*. If an office has no name, set the name=* tag to the company name, as we use to do with any other companies and shops as well. Also, I doubt that a water drop alone will be a comprehensive icon for an office. It would certainly me misinterpreted as a spa or water works or something. I suggest a building outline containing a window and a water drop. --Fkv (talk) 15:30, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
    • I'll add the name=* parameter back and suggest that as the display param then. Kaldari (talk) 03:23, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. -- Species 14:51, 22 May 2014 (UTC) we should develop a generic "office" icon and use it with a small water drop.
