Summary

A feature for tagging smaller memorials is missing, usually remembering special persons, peoples lost their lives in the world wars, ...

Memorials can be often found at public greens or cemeteries.

I propose: historic=memorial for this.

We already have historic=monument, which doesn't fit well here, as it's more for larger things like Nelson's Column in London, as I've been told by the Mailing List.

Memorial at Tynwald Hill, Isle of Man, remembering people lost their lives in WW I.
Small memorial at Douglas cemetery, Isle of Man, remembering people lost their lives in the Tourist Trophy.

Tag

The historic=memorial tag applies to nodes.

Rendering

Memorials should be rendered at close zoom levels only, as they are usually of minor interest.

Memorials will often have the form of crosses or poles, a small and simple icon could look like this: Memorial icon.png - icon added to proposal by Ulfl 01:53, 12 July 2007 (BST)
