Proposal
This is a proposal for tagging for silos. A silo is a storage container for bulk material. The most commonly noticed form is a tower silo.
Rationale
Being mostly tall structures, silos are landmarks which lend themselves to navigating. Most silos are easy to discern from other structures by the layperson. There is a proposal to map silos as man_made=gasometer, a proposal which is likely to be more confusing to mappers than man_made=silo.
Proposed Tagging
Applies to nodes or area.
Tag Values
Required tagging
- man_made=silo
Secondary tagging
- height = <height of the silo in metres>
- contents = crop|silage|manure|cement|grit|salt|etc
- operator = <company name or similar>
- material = wood|metal|steel|brick|concrete|etc
Suggested Rendering
Rendering of a node in typical Mapnik colours:
in zoom 16 and above, smaller in zoom 14 and 15, appears at about the same zoom level as churches, whose steeples are landmarks of similar size. One could use different inner circle diameters for gasometers and water towers. Areas may be mapped with a similar inner outline, if feasible. There is a proposal for chimney, which can be rendered with a smaller diameter and a thick outline only.
Tagging in use prior to the proposal
The following tagging structures have been identified:
- building = yes (for Henninger Turm)
