How to map

The way of a street or of a railway has to be split in three parts: the way before the cutting, the cutting itself, the way after the cutting.

  1. Mark the beginning of the cutting by a node.
In JOSM split the line by P, in Potlatch by X.
  2. Mark also the end of the cutting by a node.
In JOSM split the line by P, in Potlatch by X.
  3. Now select the way representing the cutting.
  4. Add the tag cutting=yes for a cutting on both sides or cutting=left/cutting=right in the direction of the way.
