A slipway is a ramp into the water for launching a boat. Sometimes referred to as "boat ramps", "boat landings" or "boat launches".
They are typically simply a concrete ramp at the end of an access road or track into the water. The boat owner backs a vehicle with a boat trailer down the ramp until the trailer is in the water and floats the boat off.
Larger boat ramps may include winding gear and cranes for handling larger vessels that might be trucked in.
Launching points for canoes
For places whithout an accessible ramp where a boat (canoe/kayak/stand up paddleboard/row boat/paddle-craft) is carried to and from the water use canoe=put_in or whitewater=put_in instead.
How to map
A typical mapping might be to make a short highway=service way to the water's edge and make the final node a leisure=slipway.
The highway=service that is part of the physical slipway is often further refined with a service=slipway. Keep in mind though that this does not replace leisure=slipway, mapped as a node on the end of that way.
Some mappers instead tag the whole way as leisure=slipway without using a highway=* tag, or sometimes in combination with highway=service (here service=slipway can be applied as well as above).
Show who is allowed to use the slipway with access=*, typically access=yes or access=private.
Add whether or not a fee is required to use the slipway with fee=*.
One can also specify surface with surface=*.
If by crane see also man_made=crane and crane:type=*.
