Layers - are we in GIMP or what?

In GIS_for_Dummies_(written_by_a_dummy)#Layers_-_are_we_in_GIMP_or_what.3F, just adding my POV(point of view). I think we should distinguish between the tools we use and the OSM system. Some program could add for example all highway=footway ways on the layer "footways", and then put all highway=cycleway ways on the layer "cycleways". It's rather the tool rather than the OSM system, that could have a change. Logictheo 09:29, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup. 1st person

broom

This page is being considered for cleanup. Please discuss this page.

This page is written by one particular person Chris(tian) Browet User:Koying. This is made perfectly clear with use of 1st person in the text, and with the title "(written by a dummy)".

My instinct is to say that this isn't in the style we seek to promote on this wiki and so this needs cleanup to remove such 1st person references, and declare that this is page is not "written by a dummy" but in fact "written as a collaborative wiki document by many contributors", like any page on this wiki. It would move to a new title at least to remove the "written by a dummy" bit, and we'd also seek to mesh in a better with related topics.

But maybe it would lose something in doing this. An alternative could be to move the page to "User:Koying/GIS for Dummies (written by a dummy)" which would make it part of this user's scratch space. This is something I've done in the past for some pages which are individual "essays" written by one person. The disadvantage of this might be that in fact the page is attracting some collaboration (and translation).
