--Lulu-Ann 23:27, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

hapticlab.com

I'm pretty sure I've read about hapticlab.com before, and that they might indeed be using OSM data. --Dittaeva 10:39, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Printers I have access to

Through my university I have access to a few machines that might be useful for testing 3d maps. These are them. Pnorman 06:10, 11 April 2012 (BST)

Laser cutter

This can cut and etch plastics. It takes either vectors or rasters. It won't cut metal. Typical plastics are acrylic and ABS. It can take up to a 18"x24" work-piece.

3d extrusion printer

This can print up to approximately a 140mm cube although it works best on relatively flat objects. It prints using extruded ABS.

Waterjet

This can cut and etch virtually any material including steel, aluminium, many plastics and stone. This particular waterjet can take approximately 3'x5' pieces but ones that can take more than a 4'x8'. For cutting at a commercial shop the minimum charge would normally be only about $50 to cover setup costs.

I have not cut much stone, but it should be possible to get a flat stone and etch it. The waterjet only takes dxf files, but it should be possible to generate one form a SVG. It does not take raster files.

It should be possible to use mapnik's SVG output.
