Bug Reports & Feedback

Please post any feedback or bug reports on the GitHub issue tracker for iD, where they will be seen by devs and maintainers, instead of here.

If the demo site doesn't work for you

If in Firefox one gets a blank page, then try

mv .mozilla .mozilla.bak

and then start Firefox again. No, not even -safe-mode was good enough. Jidanni (talk) 01:04, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Browser support

In October 2013, the wiki say that IE 9 and IE 10 are not supported and Firefox are slow, but IE 9 work since 5 month (https://github.com/systemed/iD/issues/1437#issuecomment-17609770 ) And for IE 10, only a bug with windows 8: https://github.com/systemed/iD/issues/1431

I only found some problem with Firefox for SVG (http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/katze_sonne/diary/19211#comment23264 ) but it's writed in may 2013. Firefox 24 (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/24.0/releasenotes/) give some feature for SVG (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=600207 )

Where we could find an official page where we can see the official support of browser ?? In the github bugtrack, the developper could create some categorie for each broswer or OS ?? --Agaric (talk) 09:11, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

I am not sure, but maybe I wrote that parts. The source is linked each time - bug reports mostly. You can look at them if they are fixed, maybe even try yourself with that browser and just update the wiki page. I think for Firefox some problems were fixed, but I guess that does not make it fast. More problems exist. I am not aware of a browser support page. Mayb you can find some infos in the developer blogs.
Feel free to fix/update the wiki page - I am not that motivated anymore to help iD. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 23:01, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
I follow the Notes pages who give me Kothic browser bugs On Github, il found a metabug. In two words, there are not a central where we could found all bugs form a browser affected or affect iD's use.--Agaric (talk) 15:32, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Moving to iD editor

The editor is named "iD" but the page is named "ID" because of a MediaWiki limitation (the first letter of a page title is case-insensitive).

"ID" however is very ambiguous in the world of OSM, see Id (disambiguation).

I therefore think it would be better to rename this page to iD editor, updating all pages that currently link to id/ID/iD and then moving Id (disambiguation) to id.

I agree. Seems like a reasonable proposal.

Are there any gotchas people can think of that would make this painful to do? Dónal (talk) 10:39, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

iD seems in OSM context to be far more relevant that what Id (disambiguation) lists Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:59, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
I don't agree. The name of the editor is "iD", not "iD editor". "ID" is not very ambiguous in the world of OSM, when one writes "iD" (or even "ID") , I assume it's about the editor. maro21 20:09, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
iD (editor) would also be an option. I do consider "ID" to be very ambiguous. It normally stands for identifier ... there are many different kinds of identifiers in OSM (for elements, users and changesets). While iD is the most used editor (see Editor usage stats) identifiers (IDs) are also relevant to people consuming OSM data (and not just those who edit it with iD). --Push-f (talk) 21:16, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

it is special when it has a big D. I do not think a change is required. CBRS (talk) 22:22, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Where to get help on iD

This is a fine article for the software techies. For the user, there's not a lot to help us. Is there an online manual? I have found learnosm.org (and will add to this page), but it's not particularly detailed. eteb3 (talk) 06:50, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

Yes, there is a "Help" tab in the iD editor and a walkthrough. Do you have a specific question that is not answered there? You can ask it here. maro21 21:37, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the offer of help. My contributions to OSM are as a non-techie, so I try to rework Wiki articles where they seem inappropriately technical. I have added a few other sources of help to the page now.
I assume this Talk page isn't a conventional source of help? Or shall I add that as an option on the Article page, too? eteb3 (talk) 08:21, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
One can a ask a question about iD here, but yes, this isn't the best place for questions because limited number of people will see it - mostly editors of this article. Better to ask on GitHub, forum or OSM Help. I thought you had a question. maro21 23:23, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
