Urban Boundaries
Sector Blocks
There has been long wait for OSM to implement that our addresses are not always street base (like in the west) but often divided in block,sector. These are postal and govt administrative blocks. Does that qualify to be handled here in boundaries?. I understand this feature requires changes is almost all tools+web we use in OSM. thevikas (talk) 19:46, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Urban Development Authorities
In Haryana for example we have HUDA, which is competing with Municipality. Uses totally different and very confusing zone system. Administrative offices for every zone exist. Where will these xxDA zones fit? thevikas (talk) 19:52, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Attributes
There are few properties of each political boundaries:
- Elected Person
- Election Year
- ECI AC Number (ref:ano)
- ECI PC Number (ref:pno)
- ECI Ward Number (ref:wno)
We need to support at least these in the attributes of political boundaries to support extensions which can later take data from other source or database. There are many other properties but these are the minimum. Please suggest. thevikas (talk) 06:58, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- Since the elected person and election year are not specifically geographical attributes, I think its better not to have them in OSM. Rather this kind of data exist in wikidata so that the latest information can be joined to the shapefiles by matching the constituency number or name.
- The PC/AC/Ward numbers are important, but I cannot find a source for a national numbering system for these. In the absence of any reliable source, we can add the wikidata item id [1] --Planemad/Talk 09:30, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Started using these now in coimbatore. Adding wards and assemblies to try out [1]. Not giving election year or elected person. Also added ref:xxx attributes to the properties above to store numbers. Numbers are as used by ECI and Municipal Corporations for that city. Skipping info if certain constituency is reserved e.g. SC etc. thevikas (talk) 04:15, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
Ward boundary

- Its included in the political group. The political_division=* tag which can be used to claassify the different types of boundaries needs some work. I have put in numbers from 1-5 as an initial scheme in the absence of any substantial global usage pattern [2] --Planemad/Talk 09:30, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Political divisions
We the following political divisions In India as per Elections in India and Panchayati Raj[3]:
- political_division=1 Parliamentary Constituencies - Headed by an MP
- political_division=2 Assembly Constituencies - Headed by an MLA
- political_division=3 Ward / Village gram panchayat - Headed by Councillor or Sarpanch
Going to update the main page, to bring it down from 6, since some of the levels seem to coincide with the admin_level boundaries --Planemad/Talk 11:17, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
Undiscussed changes
There have been changes made to the page after the 12th March, as far as I know without discussion. As they significantly differ from current usage, I'm asking if there was discussion anywhere else. I have made the changes in that page, as what I already know. Whatever in the page should correspond with the ground reality. Map should follow as well. There was a discussion in the mailing list when this change was made. Check this thread:

Hi,
It is great to hear that you propose to change or have already updated some tagging. Please remember to change the main documentation as well (in this case Template:Admin level). Just think of some mapper from another country mapping in India and being confused about the system. --Tigerfell
