Confusing "which are preferred"

"Commonly used to mark path which are preferred by local cyclists despite not being officially signed cycle paths"

How it is done? I see how it may be used to exclude cases where cycling is legal but unfeasible, but how one may use it to mark preferable ways? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:11, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Add bicycle:practical=yes to a road which e.g. otherwise already allows cycling, e.g. highway=service + bicycle:practical=yes, since there may be characteristics which make people prefer that street but which are difficult to codify and translate into other tags useful for consumption. In theory, you could also use highway=footway + bicycle:practical=yes even though that’s not strictly legal, but may be tolerated in that place. Andrew Shadura 13:21, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

restore standard version of page

I think that standard version of how page describing tag would look like is preferable - and propose to revert to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Key:bicycle:practical&oldid=1849035

Though I agree that it should be rather described as extremely subjective and not recommended Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 20:56, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
