  • I am working on a habitat tag based primarily on the UK 'phase one habitat survey' schema. But hopefully adaptable to other systems too. user:hawkeyes
  • I'll put a link in to this page as there is some inter-relationship. user:hawkeyes
  • If this works out, I would be interested to encourage an 'OpenHabitatMap' or 'OpenPlantMap' rendering/slippy map. Any thoughts? user:hawkeyes
  • I see a progression from using basic landuse and natural (anyone), then to habitat tags (some experience) and then Plant_Community tags (expert). Does that make sense? user:hawkeyes

English vs. scientific names

I see no point in using English names as values for the main tag. They are scientifically worthless, unusable for automated processing, and impossible to know for experts with non-English primary language, let alone non-experts. Please use scientific names instead (i.a. rename plant_community:taxon=* to just plant_community=*). They are the same all over the world.

For the scientific names, it should be defined that the abbreviation of the author's name may (but need not) be omitted, and whether the epitheton may be omitted as well (e.g. "Fagion" as short name for "Fagion sylvaticae"). In the latter case, I think that the benefit of lesser typing effort does not fully compensate for the problems in processing. --Fkv (talk) 18:41, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

proposal

This page does not describe a simple and established feature. Instead, it is actually a proposal for a new tagging scheme. Therefore it should be properly marked as a proposal and be moved to another wiki path, leaving the key:plant_community page free for documention of actual or future usage. --Fkv (talk) 18:53, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
