  • I would just add a abandoned=yes to the regular highway tag, this keeps information about the original highway usage (is it an abandoned motorway or just an abandoned track?) --Colin Marquardt 11:29, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Dunno, it is abandoned for about 150 years, but it was quite large highway then, since it is still quite visible in the landscape.

I meant the tag for highways abandoned for so long that the original usage cannot be distinguished (at least if you are not archaeologist or historian or someone like that), but the traces are still visible in the landscape. --Bilbo 13:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

A good example would be a former elevated highway or railway that has been torn down, like New York City's West Side Elevated Highway. There are also city streets that have been closed and deeded to the adjacent landowner, who has constructed a building on the former street right-of-way.

On the other hand, we probably don't want to include abandoned street railways. But what about former street running of steam/diesel railways? --NE2 06:24, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
