proposal for deletion

I have proposed to delete this page, the reasons discussed below. Ipofanes 16:58, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Why delete it? If it really is an abandoned proposal, we can simply set the state accordingly and move it to Rejected features. --Tordanik 09:45, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
abandoned != rejected. You need a ballot to reject, but I think there needn't be one. Ipofanes 19:13, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
The page I linked to contains both rejected and abandoned features. Anyway, my point was that deleting abandoned proposals is uncommon, they are usually just renamed. --Tordanik 20:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

more general proposal for vending machines

There is a more general proposal for vending machines on Proposed features/vending machine. It covers not only cigarettes, but also drinks, condoms, stamps… --Tordanik 19:14, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

On the other hand I think restricting ourselves to vending machines is an error. There should be a generic way to say: at this node you can find cigarettes. I'm pretty sure that for most people the most important information is where to find cigarettes. That means there has to be a generic way of expressing that cigarettes are sold. Not only that but in some countries (at least in France) cigarettes vending machine are illegal and you can only find them in kiosks or "bars-tabac". I'm not dead sure yet it's the best way of achieving that, but I think the generic aspect of the vending machine node is both a strength and a weakness. For instance, cigarettes, parking tickets, cold drinks (non exhaustive list) can all be bought at shops/restaurants/booth and vending machines. Tagging the availability of those goods should be done in a generic universal among all those type of nodes so that search for these type of goods can be done without having to use a syntax for vending machines, another one for kiosks and a third one for pubs, etc... This should be discussed also in the vending machine page, so I'm copying this comment there and the vending machine discussion should be the reference one, this left only for reference. I am sure smokers are as intelligent as other persons and therefore are able to look for vending machines AND shops. --Lulu-Ann 15:35, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
AOL. I would like to see if this proposal could be merged with vending_machine. Ipofanes 12:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
