- +1 for landuse=residential plus appropriate additionnal tags. --Pieren 11:14, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Despite being called communities, they are actually private neighbourhoods where people pay mainly for a reliable security service (the needs here are different from the ones in developed countries), so you can't go in them as you could in a normal neighbourhood, and usually the people who live in them don't have the kind of relation that they would have if they lived, for example, in religious communities. Besides, these "country clubs" (as we call them here) are often built in the countryside rather than next to cities, and have some independence.
I think that your suggestion for a "community" tag is a great idea, but this is something different, and wouldn't fit perfectly into that. As the tag landuse=residential doesn't fit all the requirements of a gated community either, I'm making this proposal.
About the other suggestions, I agree with you. I may add that in gated communities, the tag barrier=fence should be set by default, and the entrances and internal streets should always be drawn. -- Chango640 21:51, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
+1 on the use of landuse=residential. That's what I've been doing for the gated communities (which we call villages and subdivisions) in the Philippines. These gated communities really are residential areas. Just add supplementary tags like residential=gated (in keeping with highway=service then service=parking_aisle) to differentiate various types of residential areas. --seav 02:35, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
+1 for landuse=residential. The landuse is a specific kind of residential ? Use residential and add semantic with an other tag. They are a lot of suggestions above. Don't create a new specific landuse value. It will be forgotten by a lot of renderers. If you use the residential the renderers will render at least a residential. Maybe you can create a special and more descriptive value for the fenced=* or access=at your risks or barrier=watchtower. I don't like too much the use of the community=* here. It is not realy a community...--FrViPofm 08:41, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
