Proposal talk:Multiline Notes and Descriptions

"For these tags there will be a separate editor "

How can you be so sure that there will be a special editor for any tag? There is no special handling of any other tag in any of the editors I've seen. Do you intend to write that special case? If so, for what editors and translated for users in what languages? Are you doing the documentation as well and going to support and maintain it? --MarcusWolschon 08:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Right - this is the main issue with the suggestion. All editors would need to support multi-line text. If there's a consensus that this is too much effort or not possible I'll dump the proposal. Right now I just want to see if proper text editing for descriptions is something people want to have. --Grungelborz 19:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

There already is a description as well as a note -tag. So, what are you proposing? --MarcusWolschon 08:30, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

editors

"In OSM there exists the 'description' and 'notes' tag for this purpose. However the OSM editors JOSM and Potlach use the same single-line editor for them." so? Please add a link to your feature-requests in the ticket-systems or mailing-list-archives for both these editors. This seems to be an issue with these 2 specific programs, not with tagging at all. --MarcusWolschon 08:32, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

It has to do something with tagging as it affects all editors that use the data. Of course one could write a plugin for JOSM that provides multi-line editing, but then other editors could not handle it. --Grungelborz 19:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
