Proposal talk:Tag:restriction=school zone
- I'm not sure we need a specific new tag for this. School areas are already tagged with amenity=school and speed limit or other restrictions applying at certain time (I know an example where the street is oneway only when school is opening or closing) are already proposed somewhere else on this wiki. -- Pieren 09:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. We would end up with school_zone_maxspeed, winter_maxspeed, night_maxspeed, maxspeed_during_elk_migration_season ..., which are all basically temporal restrictions. It could be useful to be able to state the reason for the limitation; for this, however, a seperate proposal would be in order. --Schuetzm 09:24, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Use conditions!
I do not think that restrictions applying only on school days are radically different from restrictions applying only on Sundays, only when the road is wet or when it's dark. It's simply another example for conditional restrictions. These are covered in a more general way by my proposal here. Therefore, I think you should either
- define a condition for this or
- (probably better solution) express this using the opening_hours syntax.
If it cannot be expressed using opening_hours, that tag's syntax should be extended, because most likely there are several examples for amenities whose opening_hours depend on school days anyway. Possibly, this can be combined with school district boundaries as discussed on the talk mailing list. --Tordanik 23:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
