Flowerbeds are a special sort of garden

It may be better to use the tag leisure=garden. I see flowerbeds as being special sorts of gardens. I also do not understand why this should be a distinct landuse. Isn't growing flowering plants a form of agriculture? So an agricultural land uses could be used with the crop being flowers. Also, flowerbeds alongside roadways are often planted for more than one reason. While the flowers beautify the road, the planted area also serves as a part of the highway infrastructure, such as a barrier dividing lanes or separating pedestrians from traffic. I don't see a need for such a specific landuse tag when something else more generic is available and that tag would give me better information about the purpose and function of the flowerbed. - Huttite (talk) 02:19, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

The way I see it, flowerbeds are often a (small) part of a park. "Park" and "garden" indicate the general purpose of an area, while "flowerbed" says something about the physical furnishing of an area (hence the use of "landuse"). A park would contain several smaller areas tagged as flowerbed, grass, and wood. Agriculture is growing crops for consumption or sale (ie, commercial), while flowerbeds are normally for decoration (or research, in case of a botanic garden). Tagging flowerbeds can be useful both for orientation (inside a big park) and as a point of interest for photographers. --Pbb (talk) 20:11, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Land COVER not a use

Flowers are not a use of the land - they are a land cover. So it should be landcover=flowerbed. This allows use of the land for a road verge (landuse=road/highway), garden (leisure=garden), or any other land use (agricultural, military etc). Warin61 (talk) 00:21, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Planting bed or Plantbed maybe better word ?

A flower IS a plant, and when there are also other plants, besides flowers, 'involved', like i.e. trees and bushes etc. then that is maybe more 'encompassing' ? --Henke54 (talk) 23:20, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Individual flowerbeds

For individual flowerbeds (1 flowerbed) we can use man_made=flowerbed. --Dieterdreist (talk) 18:10, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
