Conflicts with runway

Runway includes this feature so this looks to be a type of runway and should be depreciated to runway. The tagging of runway can includes things like surface, width and access so this 'airstrip' tag could be removed. Warin61 (talk) 00:07, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

No, aeroway=airstrip was meant as an alternative to aeroway=aerodrome, not to aeroway=runway. The article makes that quite clear. Not that I like this tag very much, I prefer to tag aeroway=aerodrome PLUS aerodrome=airstrip. Jan olieslagers (talk) 17:50, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
If I can get it wrong .. so will others! The article/page does not make it clear. Agree for your interpretation areodrome=airstip would be better. Warin61 (talk) 22:06, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
I did some searching. Most of these are simple nodes from which little can be determined. The few ways are clearly runways e.g.Way: 408754216 and Way: 408754215. Given that these are supposed to be minimal then simply mapping them are runways without any other aeroway tag would give the information. Note that the tag comes from a LINZ import - from New Zealand. Warin61 (talk) 00:18, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
LINZ definition of 'airstrip' = "an area that consists only of a grass (sometimes limestone) runway in a remote location" . So it is a runway. Most of these are in New Zealand and appear to be made by one changeset that altered them from aerodrome. Warin61 (talk) 02:22, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

aeroway=airstrip are just incorrectly tagged aeroway=aerodrome

Things tagged with this tag should be aeroway=aerodrome. If you read the aeroways page aeroway=aerodrome includes landing strips.

I tend to think an aerodrome will have some services. If I simply map the runway then I don't imply anything other than the runway itself. Warin61 (talk) 02:28, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
