area of medicine

May I suggest to add the area(s) of expertise of the practitioner:

  • general_medicine=yes|no
  • internal_medicine=yes|no

...

  • dermatologist=yes|no
  • gynaecologist=yes|no

N.B. amenity=dentist still seems to be a separate tag

amenity=doctor should be merged here

At the time of writing, taginfo had the following statistics:

Tag Number of Usages
amenity=doctors 11,114
amenity=doctor 116
healthcare=doctor 23

On the basis of this evidence it should be documented that amenity=doctors is the most commonly-used way to tag a doctor's office in practice. --Matt 22:00, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

  • Yup. Since they mean exactly the same thing, it might be worth doing a manual bot-like edit on the db to change over the 100+ non-s-suffixed objects. With due checking... --achadwick 12:45, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Only 15 amenity=doctor left today, so I've merged it. --Cartinus 17:04, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Map Features

Resolved: Map features updated. --achadwick 13:03, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

amenity=doctor is linked from Map features. This should probably be corrected to link to amenity=doctors. --Skippern 22:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

  • I agree, purely based on the current usage patterns. I'll try to make some time for this. --achadwick 12:43, 11 November 2010 (UTC) In fact it's far easier than I thought: the old parameter was the pural/posessive apostropheless version already, which means that translations Should Just Work[tm] --achadwick
