Is it really necessary to have additional main tag for larger amount of drinkable water ?

All of this could be handled by one tag, either amenity=drinkable_water with appriopiate subtag for size/amount, or even better with amenity=water_point with subtags for size/amount and drinkable. And what with man_made=water_well + pump=powered ? Is it also amenity drinkable_water / water_point ? Rafmar (talk) 00:43, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

+1 ! Too much !
  1. amenity=drinking_water
  2. amenity=water_point
  3. waterway=water_point
  4. amenity=watering_place
  5. natural=spring
  6. amenity=fountain
  7. man_made=water_well
KISS  ! We already have enough tags !
amenity=water_point (or better amenity=water_supply) + amount=* + drinking_water=* + man_made=fountain/water_well/trough/wash_house + access=* would fit !
and it is to the renderer to chose the aspect(s) being rendered (drinkable for hiking maps, construction, tourism, nature...).
Or we will soon have more values amenity=plant_watering_place, amenity=chicken_watering_place

For places offering water in big quantity? how was it measured?

What are RV tanks?

This term appears on this wiki and in the short guidance when tagging in iD. Not clear to this mapper what this means - could do with clarifying.

RV or caravan fresh water holding tanks, for washing and drinking water. --Jeisenbe (talk) 07:23, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! And an RV is...? Ah! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recreational_vehicle I see the page is updated: much clearer now, thank you. Eteb3 (talk) 07:51, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Use of water_point=yes with amenity=drinking_water

I believe water_point=yes could be used in combination with the very common tag amenity=drinking_water to show a feature where large amounts of drinking water are available for refilling holding tanks. This would mean that amenity=water_point would not be necessary and database users would only have to look for the more common tag (10 times) amenity=drinking_water; the main tag would be amenity=drinking_water and water_point=yes would show that caravan water holding tanks could be refilled there. --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:58, 6 July 2019 (UTC)
