distinguishing repair shops

how could places that are primarily repairing computers be distinguished ? while they might sell a phone case or a car holder, they should be marked different from places that primarily sell things. --Richlv (talk) 17:21, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Proposal to indicate that a shop provides services on or sell Linux computers

A linux=yes or maybe put it in brand=* as there wouldn't be ambiguity and be more flexible instead of a fix list. --Tuxayo (talk) 14:18, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi! Wouldn't you rather use service=*? The description says: "Additional information about a service highway/railway/waterway, or about services offered at a business". So shop=computer + service=linux would be a shop what provides services on or sell Linux computers. -- Dcapillae (talk) 15:30, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
Very interesting. I was inspired by service:bicycle=* and I think that having a service:linux=* with yes/no/only could be also very useful since it allows to declare if there is support to that, if there is no support, or if the support is specialized to that and not for other systems. At the same time this is polite since somebody can propose service:windows=* or service:macos=* with yes/no/only and that could be useful too. Also, being able to say if the support is there or if it's missing makes it simple to be integrated in StreetComplete and other mini-editors (needing a way to declare if the information was already asked or not - something that is not easy saying just =linux). I'm glad to see this discussion since today my friend Oirasor7 was looking for this. Thank you User:Tuxayo and User:Dcapillae for your feedback. --Valeriobozz (talk) 14:31, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
  1. Problem of this is it doesn't follow computer:*=* here.
  2. *:windows=* and *:macos=* look confusing for glass "windows" (service:windows=* is imaginable for shop=windows etc) and some "maco"s or macros. You are allowed to use uppercase if it is a special proper name, as in ref:*=*, a few payment:*=*, and currency:*=*.
Should check if shop=mobile_phone and office=it have anything for OS --- Kovposch (talk) 19:56, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
Linux is the OS inside the product. brand=* will conflict with computer brands, cf shop=car. --- Kovposch (talk) 20:06, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
Maybe this could be a more interesting compromise to avoid confusion with glass or other things:
Are these more interesting to avoid confusion? If yes maybe we can try to suggest them in the right place. (which one?) --Valeriobozz (talk) 09:45, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
