Hi, thanks for editing but I am a bit confused why this page was deleted. I understand that the tag is not 'approved' or is not used very often, but I would propose the page to stay or alternative page be created so that users looking to tag a feature that is described with this tag can find out what types of tags have been used for it. --Skorasaurus 21:10 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, the original proposal still exists at Proposed features/shop=storage rental for future reference. —M!dgard [ talk ] 22:10, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Use landuse=garages instead?

These "Self Storage" facilities are quite common in the USA. The general idea is that you rent a small rectangular room where you can put your extra stuff. Popular companies include  Extra Space Storage and  Public Storage. Are there any opinions on using landuse=garages as the only tag for these?

Or should landuse=garages be used in combination with another tag like shop=storage_rental or amenity=storage?

Here are various storage related tags I could find:

landuse=garages
shop=storage_rental
amenity=boat_storage
man_made=storage
amenity=storage
amenity=self_storage
shop=storage_units
shop=storage
amenity=cold_storage
amenity=storage_rental
shop=self_storage

I wouldn't use landuse=garages unless the facility actually had garages (indoor parking spaces for vehicles). Some facilities do include an outdoor parking area where motorhomes, recreational vehicles, trailers, boats etc. can be stored when not in use but the actual storage buildings are generally for domestic goods only and cannot be driven into. -- T99 (talk) 09:11, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Commercial or industrial?

Which landuse tag goes better with self storage facilities? I initially went with landuse=commercial because these facilities serve individual consumers directly. They are very different from industrial warehouses. -- T99 (talk) 09:05, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
