Rendering

Please help change the representation of "theme_park" to something more identifiable. Currently (October 8, 2010), "theme_park" maps in Mapnik as a subtle dashed brown line. Osmarender shows nothing at all. "Attractions" map as a solid pink area and are easy to see.

Additional tags

BrianatBrea, I don't think it's necessary to include so many other features which might be mapped inside of a theme park. We should generally just include the tags that can be added to the same database object, like name=*, operator=*, opening_hours=*. Nature "discovery parks", "open-air museums" and Miniature Parks?

Geozeisig, what is the source of your assertion that this tag is also used for nature "discovery parks", "open-air museums" and "Miniature Parks"? I'm not entirely clear on the definition of these features. nature discovery parks: could be for example:Laga Wittstock, Buga Heilbronn It is an attraction for half a year and then becomes a public garden.

large-scale open-air museums: see Open-air_museum

Miniature Park: see Miniature_park

You're right, there are already many theme parks. I once researched with overpass turbo. Most are fine, but there are a few that are flawed. --geozeisig (talk) 12:47, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

OK, I would like to change the description= to "An amusement park where entertainment is provided by rides, games, concessions." to be shorter. Is that all right? The main wiki text will still mention "This includes nature discovery parks or large-scale open-air museums or Miniature Park(s)," but I think it's not needed in the description= field. Adventure parks

What about adventure parks? I have seen several venues that call themselves adventure park. These are places where you pay a fee to rent safety climbing gear and get access to different climbing attractions, usually steel ropes, nets, platforms and wooden boards that are set up between trees. There may be also archery ranges. They are addressing children but also adults. Additional services may be provided (food and drinks). One place I have seen had a “didactic farm” nearby. Some times you can rent the place for birthday parties. One places also featured are more traditional climbing wall. Here’s an example: [1] here’s a different one: [2]. I have tagged both as theme parks, but I’d like to add a more specific subtag. Here’s an article on WP: [3]. I have found Key:playground#Themes and there is also some usage of theme=* and even theme=adventure but it seems it isn’t currently used as subtag for theme parks. Sub Areas

Many theme parks have Sub theme areas. example Disney Hollywood Studios has sub areas like Toy Story Land and Star Wars Galaxy's Edge which are currently being outlined with a locality tag but could better be represented with a theme park tag with some sort of sub theme area descriptor. Mapping guidelines

I’m currently looking into updating data about Europapark (Germany) and it’s a real mess to work through. The lack of guideline here and the high probability of a new user adding pieces of informations has made the area a data dumpster with multiple elements per feature , non-straight building outlines and usage of name key as description field (Some being exclusively in german, while I can understand the use of local language in general, that should be an exception for those "international" places). I read that some people worked on big parks, it would be awesome to have them describe their workflows about it and eventually have some mapping guideline, especially about rollercoaster’s tracks and local transportation. --Lejun (talk) 15:39, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

Rollercoasters

To distuingish those parks that have rollercoaster from those that haven't, I'd like to add a tag to theme parks that gives info how many operating rollercoasters a theme park has. This is a useful info for rollercoaster enthusiasts and would allow to create "rollercoaster maps". It would as well be possible to indirectly seperate "big" amusement park POIs from those that depict small business, like corn mazes.
