Started this page
I didn't find a good place to put these things so I started a new page. Some reorganization of the information about tagging features might have to be done at some point. Joto 08:06, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- It certainly needs to be fleshed out with more quetions and answers if it is to be useful.
- We also have Editing Standards and Conventions which perhaps should contain similar information in a non-faq form -- Harry Wood 14:14, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Questions
Can you put questions on here that you want the answer to? Bruce89 21:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- No. Ask questions here on the dicussion page. If somebody else knowns an answer then the Q & A can be placed on the actual page.
- ...however we also don't want opinionated answers on the page. Wiki pages work best when we collaboratively edge towards a neatral point of view. The wiki page itself should be stating things which we agree upon. Initially that might mean something which one person believes is something we agree upon. If necessary, the page should state that there is disagreement.
- The tricky thing is that all of this is presented here in the form of questions and answers, where it particularly tempting to stray from neutral point of view.

How to trace roads that join in a large area, something that is not a T nor a Y and without an island in the middle?
Hi,
Most of the time, roads connect in T or Y, or have an "island" then you can draw a triangle, most of the time with "oneway='yes'" on sides of the triangle.
But how to trace roads that connect in a large area of asphalt? OSM wants to reflect the reality, but doing a "simple" T or Y is not acceptable to me in this special case.
(I've read first most of the online doc and couldn't find this topic)
I take these examples because the area that is causing me problem is not accessible with an url from the web site giving the satellite or plane image: http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=48.1829991&lon=2.2436571&z=18&l=2&m=a&v=1 http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=48.176929&lon=2.2509581&z=18&l=2&m=a&v=1 http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=48.1781452&lon=2.2517842&z=18&l=2&m=a&v=1 (for this one, please assume that there is no "islands" at all, that there is a wide empty area made of asphalt to link all the roads together)
Cheers

- I suggest you mark the border of the area, and tag it with "area=true", it should then be rendered as an area, though I am not sure if all renderers take area as argument to all types of highway. --Skippern 01:11, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, but did you already do it somewhere in OSM? I'd like to see an example of how to render this correctly. If it was a car park, an area would be ok, but for roads I'm not convinced (but I didn't tried too)... noglober 16:32, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
