It's good to see that some people are working on the map. I was planning to start on 'mapping' from Dhaka. As this has been achieved already, I will be starting on Sylhet. My friends are interested to map Rangpur, Kumilla, Nator, Kishorgonj. I will keep everyone informed on this discussion page.

ওপেনস্ট্রীটম্যাপ অনুবাদ/ OpenStreetMap Translation

ওপেনস্ট্রীটম্যাপের ওয়েবসাইট অনুবাদ করা নিয়ে আপনাদের কোন পরিকল্পনা আছে কি? --Aftab (talk) 13:28, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

By OSM website if you mean openstreetmap.org, we are not planning to do it right now, but we are planning to do so. The most important part that needs translation right now is training materials. If you are interested then please throw a mail in the mailing list. Would love to discuss and get the initiative started. -- Fazlerabbi37 (talk) 17:05, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

প্রাথমিক নাম/Primary name (name)

Greetings, according to the principles/rule of OSM e.g. names or On the ground principle or Multilingual_names, the primary name should be in that country's / local language. The OSM community agreed this. We Bangladeshi mappers also agree with this. each country follows this. Currently all devices can render Bangla, so there is no reason to worry that it will make the map unusable.

for Bangladesh name tag (Primary name) should be in Bengali / letters. The other name should be in its own language code. Please Try to follow this when editing. If for some reason you cannot add Bangla, then it is not a problem, someone else can. However, please don't remove the Bangla name from the "name" tag when editing the map. Thanks.

Aftab Here you have told about OSM Bangladesh Community. May I know whom are you refering to? And moreover, when you are editing in OSM you are deleting the English names rather than keeping them. Isn't it a data vandalism that you are deleting them, where you have collected none of those data!! You have not go for any kind discussion with the OSM community worldwide, who run the backbone of the system. Go through the proper channel!! Hope it'll bring harmony in the system. Additionally if you are willing to write Bangla, then why not use the Bangla version of Wiki. Worlwide domain should go with international standard! Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sajjadsapan (talkcontribs)
Hello Sajjadsapan, long time ago when i was new i removed some english text because i didn't knew how to just move english text to "name:en" field. but now it's not true anymore, i'm not removing anymore. I also fix my previous error when i find. I am not doing any kind of data vandalism. Currently per principles/rule of OSM e.g. names or On the ground principle or Multilingual_names, I just add the primary name in country's / local language & move English name in "name:en".
You got me wrong. i am not requesting for removing english name or saying anyone can't add english name. i am just requesting when you add name if possible per principles/rule of OSM e.g. names or On the ground principle or Multilingual_names, please try to add the primary name in local language/script and add english name in "name:en". If for some reason you cannot, thats ok, one day someone will try. No need to start discussing with OSM community worldwide just because i am adding the primary name in country's / local language, its already discussed many times, its alreday in the OSM's principles/rule e.g. names or On the ground principle or Multilingual_names. --Aftab (talk) 15:52, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
dear, Aftab bhai please don't take it to your heart but everywhere you keep referring to yourself as a member of OSM Bangladesh community. But as members of both OSMBDF and BHOOT, the two official community recognized by OSM; I, Sajjadsapan (who is with OSM movement in Bangladesh from the very beginning) and many others was dazzled to never hear about you up till very recently. When you say the "'cartographers' (মানচিত্রাঙ্কনকারীরা) of Bangladesh", are you referring to a group of people who are outside this two organizations? Are they contributing as a group in Bangladesh? It's not like there are not other group in Bangladesh aside from OSMBDF or BHOOT, but we have a very good communication with almost all of them. That's why we are wondering if your aforementioned group is among those group we missed, we would love to meet with you and work together. -- Fazlerabbi37 (talk) 18:50, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Translating the Wiki Page

recently I noticed a great initiative to translate this page along with a few others to make it more accessible and readable for people speaking Bengali thanks to users: Aftab, IqbalHossain and Nasirkhan. Right now the way it is done is that the Bengali Translation is added before the English content. While visiting the Develop page I noticed that it has multiple translated page which are separate from the main English page. Click on the Translate button it led me to the Wiki Translation page where it says the same can be accomplished for all the pages by using the Languages template or by adding

{{Languages|English page name}}

on top of the page. I am very new and inexperienced at Wiki and much more novice at editing it. Inspire of my in experience, I have tried to add

{{Languages|English page name}}

code on top of the main page and created a BN Page for this page and added the

{{place
|name=Bangladesh
|type=country
|area=Southern Asia
|krdb=XD
|lat=23.7|long=90.231
|map=yes|zoom=7|width=500|height=560
}}

part (I don't know what is it called and it seems tough to translate). I would love if you, the original authors moved the tranlations to BN Page and help us learn about wiki and wiki editing. Thanks for the effort! -- Fazlerabbi37 (talk) 18:50, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
