New project page
Marine mapping seems to have suffered from not having a single place to discuss ideas and proposed changes to the tagging on the wiki. I do of course realise that there are discussions taking place on a number of email lists, but it is also useful to have a WikiProject which I have now created. Please 'watch' this page and get involved in the discussions! PeterIto 13:30, 6 June 2012 (BST)
Proposed move of 'Seamap' category to 'Marine' and 'Marine Mapping' article to 'Marine'
I am proposing to move category:Seamap to category:Marine. Any thoughts? I also propose moving the Marine Mapping articles to Marine so there is an article directly associated with the category. PeterIto 13:41, 6 June 2012 (BST)
- I have now completed the category adjustments described above. Any thoughts on moving the Marine Mapping article in various languages? PeterIto 22:04, 6 June 2012 (BST)
- Translation pages are good as long as they describe generic information about a topic such as "About Marine Mapping". If pages describe details, for example tags and their meaning, it is often difficult to keep them up to date. Thus, there are often differences between pages in different languages which describe the same thing. Rahra 20:52, 1 September 2012 (BST)
I have made a documentation of INT 1 symbols, and tried to match those with existing OSM tags. This is a first step in unifying tags for marine mapping, a project that also includes making a JOSM preset, and a MapCSS tagging scheme meant for JOSM and a tile renderer. I would like the community to help improve this documentation in order to have as good background basis as possible for unifying the tagging schemes. --Skippern 04:43, 1 September 2012 (BST)
