Updating for 2015

The page hasn't really been used for up-to-date mapping tracking since 2006. I had a go at updating it at least to label it as "not really been updated much in the past few years". I think this page could be brought back into more useful tracking use, for example figuring out how we're doing with really detailed stuff like lanes information, and checking the integrity of relation / ref number chains (should we be encouraging relations? See also route relations mailing list disussion) however..

(A) I'm not a big motorway buff myself. I'm sure somebody could do a better job of updating this

(B) Updating wiki status tables is a pretty laborious thing, which goes out of date as soon as we stop doing it. Someone should make a custom rendering of motorway related data, or an automated tool which checks the integrity of UK motorways data. Probably not that hard to render this wiki approach obsolete.

M56 data

Hello, new here, so apologies if this is the wrong place for this.

I'm looking at the route on the map using the "edit" function, and the route looks wrong at junction 3 just south of Manchester. We have the mainline of the motorway doing a 90º right hand bend, with the A5103 Princess Parkway joining it from a sliproad. In reality, it's the other way round. The mainline of the motorway becomes the A5103 Princess Parkway. The M56 north/eastbound leaves the mainline of the motorway at a sliproad, passes underneath the mainline, then heads east. The M56 westbound joins the mainline from the A5103 at a sliproad.

Richard, welcome to OpenStreetMap. Please go ahead and make the correction. 80n 08:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I've now made the change. I think, however, that we are missing GPS data for the westbound carriageway. The current GPS data seems to leave the M56 westbound at junction 2, travel along the A560, then join the motorway back at J3a. I've added some nodes to show where I believe the westbound carriageway goes, but there is a small amount of uncertainty in the precise route. I've not made this bit a way and tagged yet.
