This is an upcoming event in Tampa, Florida on Saturday February 28th, 2009 and Sunday March 1, 2009.

Mapping party!

Mapping parties are events where anyone can come and participate in the OpenStreetMap project. OpenStreetMap is a free, open source map that can be contributed, edited and used by anyone anywhere. Mapping parties are social events where experienced and new mappers can meet to share and learn more about the project. The events are generally held in a public place, and allow time for discussion, mapping and editing. The event is open to all.

It's fun. It's free. You can help.

Mapping objectives

To add more points-of-interest and make the map richer and more accurate! Survey using GPS, or using aerial photography from a laptop computer.

Suggested areas to map

Please add ideas! We should be able to make these areas much better on the map during the mapping party!

  • University of South Florida
  • Busch Gardens
  • Hillsborough Community College - Dale Mabry Campus

Examples of well-mapped areas

There's already some great work on OSM in the Tampa area, which is exciting and inspirational! (Of course, we can always add more detail, so don't hesitate to add more.)

Using opencyclemap.org for bicycle maps

  • BayCycle has a great PDF map of suitable/unsuitable roads for biking -- can we turn this data into a live OSM-type web map?
  • for ideas, see also List of local bike trails on Wikipedia
  • some local trails are already showing up on opencyclemap.org
