Dialog-warning-orange.svg Note: This Template is used on a lot of pages. In order not to put too much load on the servers, edits should be kept to a bare minimum. Please discuss proposed changes on the talk page first.
  • Editing a Template causes all pages that use the Template to be re-rendered. If the Template is used often, this can put a lot of load on the servers since it fills up the job queue (statistics).

Usage

  • {{Languages|English page name without namespace}} (for articles in the main namespace; with its leading capital letter)
  • {{Languages|ns = Namespace: |English page name without namespace}} (deprecated: for category pages, templates...)
  • {{Languages|Namespace:English page name without namespace}} (prefered now: for category pages, templates...)

Read before editing this template

In the template code, the following languages codes have a dedicated article namespace: DE, ES, FR, IT, JA, NL, RU (in capitals only). All other language codes are used for pages with pseudo-namespaces residing in the main namespace along with English pages (their language code in the prefix is lowercased, except the initial).

The English article name (after any namespace or language code prefixes) must also have its initial letter capitalized (even if its {{DISPLAYTITLE:...}} changes it to lowercase).

This also applies to redirects created for linking to translated page titles; but translated page titles are not required to use a leading uppercase letter (except in the seven languages DE, ES, FR, IT, JA, NL, RU, where {{DISPLAYTITLE:...}} may still be needed to render the translated initial as lowercase: note that you cannot use {{DISPLAYTITLE:...}} to change the lettercase rendered used in any other language as this is only permitted on the lettercase of the initial of the language code prefix, or in the lettercase of any letter of the namespace name; for other languages, don't use {{DISPLAYTITLE:...}}, but make the translated page which is the target of the redirect to use the desired lettercase directly in their translated title).

Deprecated codes: pt-br, ro-md, zh-tw.

Deprecated templates

  • Template:Languages/Interface (generates the actual display – the list of languages was synchronized with this template)
  • Template:LanguageExistingEn (tests the existence of the English page only – treated specially because of legacy uses of the deprecated "en:" or "EN:" prefixes)
  • Template:LanguageExisting (tests the existence of a translated page – usable for at most ~50 major languages of the world)
  • Template:LanguageNotTested (does not test the existence of a page – used for all other languages, added to the second list, sorted along with missing languages in the first list)
