UK Mapping Priorities
UK Mapping priorities are larger places in the UK with poor levels of mapping completeness. These are ideal targets for spreading the word and organising mapping parties.
As of September 2009 these have a combined population of over 5 million.
This list is for poorly mapped towns with a population greater than 50,000. For towns with populations of 10,000 to 50,000 see UK Mapping Secondary Priorities

To add a place to the list
To add a place to the list:
- Add to the table above including the population which can be found in Wikipedia (easiest way is to copy & paste an existing line, then edit the details)
- Make sure there is a prioritylinks template after the place name. Fill in the bounding box in the template, eg: {{prioritylinks|-2.2127|52.5533|-2.0688|52.6349}} The template will create "view" & "download" links.
- Add a score (see below for method)
- Ideally also create a page of the place and link it to the relevant county and add it to the category 'UK Mapping priority'
To remove a place which much improved mapping
If the mapping for a place is now good and it no longer qualifies to be on the list move it to the bottom of the graduate section as follows:
- Remove from the mapping priority table
- Add to the bottom of the graduate table
- Add the graduation date
- Add any credits to the 'Special thanks' column
- Remove it from the 'UK Mapping priority' category
Scoring method
There is a template which will calculate the score automatically. Simply enter the following: {{prioritymaths|POP|FILE_SIZE}} Replace "POP" with population (do not include a comma), and replace "FILE_SIZE" with the size of the .osm file in MB, eg: {{prioritymaths|259252|4.2}}
The higher the score, the more work that is needed.
Yahoo photography
A yahoo aerial photography coverage map is also available to identify areas where photography is available.
