Summary

At present I'm earning a living as a software engineer, and I also have a long-standing interest in European languages. My interest in mapping arises because I plan to retire to France eventually, and then I will want to map the area around Spézet in Brittany.

At present I have few digital mapping skills, so I am reading the OSM pages with interest. Potlatch is what I use at the moment, but I am slowly getting to grips with JOSM. The French land registry maps (cadastre) are now open for public download and will one day be linked to JOSM using a plug-in. After a period in summer 2008 when the plug-in could be downloaded, it is currently unavailable "pending clarification of the legalities".

I also join in London mapping parties whenever I can, and on my daily cycle journey to work I am gradually filling in unnamed streets in St Helier, Morden, Motspur Park, Malden Manor, Berrylands, Surbiton and Thames Ditton. The area round Mitcham Eastfields station is also a target.

GPS Equipment

None so far. One of my reasons for joining the user group is to get some advice about suitable GPS kit.
