I am a civil servant at Communities and Local Government, working on statistics, mainly relating to housing and planning. Before this I was a cartographer and spatial analyst in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, and prior to that a Research Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London.

I have a PhD in Geographic Information Systems, focussing on the definition of town centres, retailing geography and urban geography. My other research work included investigating the spatial distribution of surnames in Britain using spatial statistics (see the Surname Profiler tool we built) and locating mythical places in literature (namely P.G. Wodehouse's Blandings Castle).

I am mapping London, bits of Cumbria and about to start on parts of the Lancashire plain.
