I live and work in San José, California. I tend to map in my local region, but also in places that I visit when traveling, especially when those locations have few or no local mappers. My mapping tends to have a strong emphasis on features important to cyclists, such as designated bike routes, off road bike paths, pedestrian overcrossings, bike shops, and similar features. Some areas that I have taken a special interest in include:

Projects

  • Collecting street names in some new subdivisions in the Silver Creek area of San Jose.
  • Finish splitting Bird Ave from 280 to Coe.
  • Fleshing out cycling related features in the San José area
  • Fleshing out cycling related features in the Truckee and north Lake Tahoe area, especially the numbered cycle route network and the off street bike paths.
  • Finish splitting Bird Ave from 280 to Coe.
  • Transcribing the Pacific Coast Bike Route in Caltrans District 1 from the official published map (permission has been granted for this use)
  • Improving the quality of mapping in Hawaiʻi
    • Getting the main islands (except Oʻahu) reimported from 2008 or 2009 TIGER data to correct datum errors
    • Investigate importing additional data provided by the Hawaiʻi GIS Department
    • Upload GPS tracklogs from my August-September 2009 cycle trip in Hawaiʻi
    • Refine coastlines based on Yahoo satellite images
    • Add beaches based on Yahoo satellite images
      • Add beach names where I know them
    • Add facilities such as public restrooms, campsites, bike lanes, hiking trails, and so on, based on on my GPS traces, Yahoo imagery, and recollections.
