Logger Device

I'm logging with a Transystem i-Blue 747a+, before it was a 747. To play around with routable maps I have a Garmin Oregon.

I also have a Garmin Forerunner 201. I my opinion this device is not perfect for logging as it automatically decides when to log a point.

Used Software

I prefer editing with JOSM. I built the source by myself to have the possibility to add changes. I did so with the name-order before (now included with JOSM). GPS-Data is downloaded using iBlue datalog, bt747 and gpsbabel. I know how to use potlatch or the plain API. I have the Tiles@Home (windows) software running. I have used osmosis to create excerpts of the database to discover bugs and create review-lists. If you want to share experiences using these tools feel free to contact me.

Hometown

I live in Munich and try adding details to the database as I see something missing.

Mapping Projects and activities

I think the Land of Smiles is a nice destination for travel or a place to live. My main mapping activities are focused to Thailand.

Since more than ten years I run a server to assist the community. Currently main usage is for rendering a bilingual tile set of South-East Asia and to run the osmose analysis backends for many Asian countries.

Involvement and conflicts of interest

I earn my money without OSM connections. My employer might potentially use OSM data (large company, I can't know everything), but I am not involved in anything OSM related. For my server I received once a sponsoring from a company in OSM context many years ago. Any such sponsoring is published on the server page for full transparency. Since the last years all server fees are fully paid out of my own pocket.

I was a moderator on the old forum and since 2022 I am in a moderator role in the community website for the Thailand channel.

Knowledge base

I answer questions on the mailing lists. For some (hopefully) useful snippets I started to collect them in the Knowledge Base
